What is Reflexology

Reflexology is a gentle and effective complimentary therapy applied to the feet and sometimes to the hands. It is considered to be a holistic healing technique that aims to treat the individual as a whole, treating the person and not just the symptoms in order to induce a state of balance and harmony in body, mind and spirit.

Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflex areas on the feet (and hands) corresponding to all the organs and glands of the body. A reflexologist is able to identify reflexes that may be out of balance and will work on these areas by applying gentle pressure to the feet with thumbs and fingers with the aim of returning the body's sytems back to their natural state of balance.

Reflexology can bring relief to a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions and is suitable for all ages, including children.

Reflexology treatment is pleasant and soothing, it relaxes and at the same time stimulates the body’s own natural healing processes.

Benefits and Effects

Reflexology does not claim to be a ‘cure’ or to diagnose medical conditions but it is possibly one of the most powerful complimentary therapies for reducing stress which is thought to be related to over 80% of illnesses . Most people who have experienced a treatment would agree that the method can be most beneficial and is a very relaxing therapy.

Reflexology is also very beneficial in maintaining wellbeing and many people enjoy the theraputic and relaxing effect of a treatment even when in relatively good health.

Whilst a single reflexology treatment can be very relaxing and helpful in maintaining equilibrium in the body, if you are seeking relief from any symptoms then a course of six weekly treatments is recommended followed up by treatments every month or two to maintain and encourage long term benefits.

I understand that weekly treatments are not always achievable due to financial or time restraints so I offer a variety of packages to meet individual needs.

A list of these packages can be found

What to expect from a treatment

Before the first treatment a consulation will take place to establish if there are any medical conditions that need to be taken into account and a treatment plan will be agreed on to meet your needs.

The treatment begins with a warm up massage to relax the feet before I start to work on the systems on your feet using the tips of my thumbs and fingers to apply pressure. Any imbalances in the body should be felt and stimulated to help clear and rebalance the reflex. The treatment is very relaxing but it is not a foot massage and sometimes the areas of imbalance may be painful, however I will work with whatever pressure you feel comfortable with.

The treatment ends with a closing massage to the feet and any findings will be discussed and aftercare advice will be provided so you can help yourself continue the healing affects of the treatment at home.

After a first initial treatment where any issues have been identified each subsequent treatment will be tailored for your needs. If you have any medical conditions you are hoping to improve then these will be discussed during your first session where a medical history will be taken.

Indian Head Massage

A range of different massage pressures and rhythms are used in this treatment which can provide instant relief from tension and stress symptoms and induce a state of calm, peace and tranquillity and also promote high levels of alertness and concentration.

This is a seated treatment working on the upper back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, head and face. The massage is performed through light clothing or directly onto the skin with the use of oils.

A treatment using oil will provide additional conditioning benefits to the hair and scalp. Usually coconut oil is applied but olive oil can be used instead if preferred. It is best to leave the oil in your hair overnight and wash out the following day to gain optimum conditioning from the oil. Be prepared for your hair being oily after the treatment if using oil, so its not advised before a night out.
